Airplanes, Smoothies, and Independence

If you’re like me, you always look forward to the weekends like kilode. The anticipation of the work-free time and the plans that you make give you something to look forward to. But sometimes, those plans never become an actual activity. If you’re an introvert like me, you know that cancelled plans are life. But if you like to go out and you look forward to your outfit popping and slaying, then it’s always a bummer to cancel.

The summer’s over and we’re all ready to pack up and go inside the house. But you still need a life even in the fall and winter. Because I’m new to Connecticut and still finding my feet, Obi’m likes to show me around town once in a while when I’m not off exploring something on my own lol. Hopefully, this weekend is not an exception. I was hoping to go get my hair done on Saturday morning, but the lady is fully booked. I miss MD terribly when I think of getting my hair done. Doing my hair in CT has been a real struggle; finding someone to do a simple sew-in without costing an arm and a leg is crazy or maybe I just haven’t been looking in the right places. If you know anyone in the area who is good with hair, please send them my way. But I digress…

This past weekend, Obi’m took me to the New England Air Museum. I love museums; the history and stories behind the pieces fascinate me. So when I heard “museum”, you know I was excited. It was so much fun: fighter jets, private planes from the 40’s, and a wall with a tribute to our servicemen. I was on Snapchat for most of the visit. Follow me @sagaciouswoman 😀

Something-something bombardier…I should have taken notes 🙁

Tribute to the fallen…that’s a lot of names mehn

Oh and by the way, did you know that you can get into a number of museums around the country for free on the first full weekend of every month, thanks to Bank of America? This is not a paid ad, but they should pay me sha. Here is a list of participating museums in your area. You’re welcome…that’s one thing you can do this weekend that is completely FREE!

When I’m not hanging out on the weekends, I cook as much as I can so that my weekdays stay cooking-free, for the most part. I’m a certified foodie; if there were a real-life club for foodies, I would be the lifetime national secretary. But lately, I’ve tilted towards eating healthier. I cut down on rice; yes fam, rice is no longer a constant in our home lol. Obi’m has always been the I’m-taking-a-bowl-of-salad-to-work kinda guy, so it’s an easy transition for him. I, on the other hand, have spend the last couple of weeks trying to be creative with my meals. I’ve been substituting quinoa for white rice too.

Spinach, grapes, strawberries, apple, bannana, yoghurt…I almost forgot to take a photo

The one thing I recently got into is smoothies. Brethren, healthy eating is pretty pricey o. Fruits can be really expensive and then making the smoothie itself needs to have its own time slot on your daily schedule. As far as smoothie recipes go, in the words of my friend Toyin, I just jam everything together lol. I’ve been trying sha, and hopefully, I can keep it up.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!!! This year, I hope our leaders are reflecting on the state of the nation and not just hosting expensive ceremonies. There’s a lot of suffering going on and there’s still a lot of work to be done. As usual, Nigerians in the diaspora no dey carry last. So unless you live in some village in North Dakota, there is most likely an Independence Day event going on near you this weekend. Turn all the way up, but please be responsible. Have an amazing weekend, everyone!

Love always,
